The Southern Garden Plan

Here is what happens
after you press start.

Three answers to set up. One job a week in your own yard, on planting dates from your state's extension service, so you stop guessing the month. A warning before a cold night. A photo when a leaf looks wrong. Two people to message. Nothing to weigh, count or keep up with. This page walks through all of it before you put a card down.

Take the guided tour

$199 a year at the end of day 7. Card required, cancel before day 7 and pay nothing. The tour needs an email, no card.

The experience

Five steps. Built for the person who has lost a garden before.

The free course and the trial are two different things. The course is free with no card and you keep it. The trial is the paid membership for 7 days, then the year. Here is the membership.

  1. 1

Start the trial. The setup is three answers.

A card is required and nothing is charged for 7 days. You tell the Plan your state, what you are growing in, and what you already have in the ground, even if that is nothing. That is the whole setup. Where you grow decides your dates, so it is the one thing we ask before anything else.

  2. 2

Open the Plan and see this week's job.

My Garden opens on your week: the one job that matters right now, why it matters for the crops you have, and the planting window for your part of your state from that state's extension service. Not a library to read. One thing to do.

  3. 3

    Do it, then tap done.

Mark a task done to remember what you finished. When you pick something, add it to Harvests to keep your harvest record. Task completion and harvest logging are separate, so you can keep the record that is useful to you.

  4. 4

Get help when something looks wrong, and a warning before it does.

Check Conditions for weather guidance before you work outside. A photo to Plant Doctor can help you investigate a plant problem, but it cannot confirm a diagnosis. Ask the Grow Guide for help using the Plan and understanding its guidance (10 questions during the trial). For a question about your own garden, message Jermaine and Toni. Replies within 48 hours, Monday through Friday.

  5. 5

At the end of day 7, the year begins.

Nothing is charged for 7 days. At the end of day 7 your card is charged $199 for the year. Cancel before day 7 from your account and you pay nothing. The paid year opens the rest of the 16-module Masterclass, GFC-1, and mails you a printed copy of Grow Food NOT Lawns, which ships once your 14-day money-back window closes. From that first charge you have 14 days to ask for every dollar back. One email.

Seeds, soil, beds and plants are yours to buy. The Plan tells you what and when. It does not ship supplies.

Powdery mildew
It moves fastest between 68 and 80 degrees with humidity over fifty percent, which is most of the Florida year.
What to do today
1Pull the oldest lower leaves showing white dust and take them out of the bed.
2Treat now, before it covers a quarter of the leaf.
3Rotate what you spray. Local strains already resist two common products.

Movement, the training app

A real training app that comes with the year. Bodyweight only up to a full gym, built from whatever you have. It writes your numbers for the day from what you did last time and says why. A day in the garden logs as a session too. Use it if you want it. The garden does not need it.

Your first twelve weeks

One job a week. Here is every week of it.

This is the beginner path inside the Plan, week by week, including the weeks where the only job is to water and look. It assumes you start inside a planting window for your part of your state. Start out of season and the Plan gives you a different first job.

Week 1
Pick your spot and put seed in the ground.

We show you which corner of the yard gets enough sun and hand you the short list of things that come up fast where you live. You clear one small patch, you plant, you water. Preparation time and supplies depend on your starting space.

Weeks 2 and 3
Water and look.

There is no big job in these two weeks. Things come up on their own and you walk out in the morning to see what moved. Watering and a quick look are still yours every day, and the Plan reminds you.

Week 4
The first pick, if you started in season.

Radishes and other fast crops can be ready inside a month when they go in during their window. Start in the wrong month and they will not, which is why the Plan picks the crop for the season you are actually in.

Weeks 5 to 7
Check whether your greens are ready.

Check the harvest guidance for the variety you planted. Pick when it is ready, and keep caring for plants that need more time.

Weeks 8 to 11
The bigger crops fill in underneath.

Review how your plantings are progressing. Check the next planting window before deciding what to add or replace.

Week 12
Look back and choose your next step.

Review what grew well, what needs another try, and which planting window comes next. Your harvest timing depends on your crops, starting date, weather, and care.

Days to harvest come from the UF/IFAS Florida Vegetable Gardening Guide. Those are published ranges for a crop, not a promise for your yard. Your dates, your weather and your care move them. The Plan gives you your dates.

An example week

What a normal week looks like inside the Plan

An example, not a schedule. Your week depends on what you planted and what the weather is doing. Watering and a quick look happen between these, most days, and the Plan reminds you.

Sunday

Open My Garden. This week's job is on top with the reason behind it: the bed you cleared last week has a planting window open now, and here is what goes in it.

Monday

Plant it. Tap done. The plant lands in your record with its date, so the Plan knows when to expect the first pick.

Wednesday

Yellowing leaf on the collards. Photo to the Plant Doctor for a likely cause and a fix to try. Still unsure? Message us with the picture. Reply within 48 hours, Monday through Friday.

Thursday

A cold night is in the forecast for your county. The Plan tells you which of your plants to cover first and which to leave alone.

Saturday

Pick what is ready and tap that you picked it. No scale needed. Watch a Masterclass lesson if you want to, or do not. The lessons wait.

A few minutes with the app. The rest of the time is in the yard, where it should be.

Who is teaching you

You have probably already watched us.

We have been doing this in public for years, for free, and people know us for telling the truth about what works down here and what does not. Nothing changes about that inside the membership. You just stop having to wait for a video to come out to get the answer.

100,000+growers across our two channels

Jermaine runs GrowFitFL. Toni runs RootedinJs. Two of the biggest gardening channels in Florida, and they are both ours.

4books in print between us

Three of mine and one of Toni's, on real shelves. A printed copy of Grow Food NOT Lawns ships once your 14-day money-back window closes when you join for the year.

11years growing food in Florida sand

A family of six on a quarter acre, over 150 edible plants. Not a test plot. It is where our supper comes from.

The channels are where we teach everybody. The Plan is where we teach you. Members get the videos we make for them and nobody else, the 764 plant files, all 87 lessons, and Direct Member Messaging when you want our eyes on your own yard. Our yard is proof of what we know. What comes out of yours depends on your crops, your season and your care, and we say that out loud.

It is the closest you can get to us without us standing in your yard.

Trial versus the year

What changes when the paid year begins

No surprises. Here is the line between the 7 days and the year.

During the 7 free days

  • My Garden, My 90 Days, the planting calendar, and a tap-to-log record of what you picked
  • The Grow Guide plant files and the members-only videos
  • Plant Doctor, and Ask the Grow Guide up to 10 questions
  • Module 1 of the Masterclass as a preview
  • Direct Member Messaging

Card required. Nothing charged. Cancel before day 7 from your account and you pay nothing.

The Grower's Year, $199 a year

Planting dates are live for Florida, South Carolina, Georgia and Louisiana, each from that state's own extension service. Alabama and North Carolina are being read now. We do not list a state until we hold its real dates.

  • Everything in the trial, all year
  • The rest of the 16-module Masterclass, all at once, nothing dripped
  • Ask the Grow Guide with no monthly cap, subject to fair use
  • GFC-1, the exam and the credential
  • A printed copy of Grow Food NOT Lawns, which ships once your 14-day money-back window closes
  • Every seasonal challenge, Movement, the Apothecary

Nothing is charged for 7 days. At the end of day 7 your card is charged $199 for the year. That is about 55 cents a day.

From that first charge you have 14 days to ask for every dollar back. One email. After 14 days the year stands. You keep access to the end of the year you paid for, and you can cancel any time so it never renews.

It renews once a year at the then-current price. We email you at least 30 days before any price change so you can cancel first. The formal versions: Free Trial Terms, Auto-Renewal Terms, Refund Policy.

Questions?

Pick your spot this week. We will tell you what goes in it.

Your family eats either way. The question is how much of it comes out of your own yard. The Plan is how you find out.

The Grower's Year is $199 a year. Your first 7 days are free. A card is required to start, and if you cancel before day 7 you pay nothing. 14-day money back from your first charge. Every seasonal challenge is included.
