A recognized mark of achievement for serious Southern growers. Built for the South. Earned inside the Club.
GFC-1 is a private credential from GrowFitFL, like a marathon medal or a yoga teacher certification. Not a government or professional license. Full details at the bottom of this page.

Why GFC-1 Exists
You feed your family from your yard. You know your soil by the smell of it. You read the sky before the weather app does. You turned your own quarter acre into a place that grows food year round, while neighbors poisoned their lawns with chemicals you would not let your dog walk on.
And until now, nobody recognized any of it.
A real estate agent gets a license. A barber gets a license. A massage therapist, a contractor, an electrician, all of them carry a credential that proves they did the work to learn their craft. A grower who has fed his family off his own land for years gets nothing.
GFC-1 was built to close that gap.
The other route in Florida is the state's Master Gardener program, and it is a fine thing. It also takes an application, 14 weeks of weekday classes, and a volunteer-hour commitment every year. GFC-1 is the food-growing credential you earn from your own backyard, on your own schedule, and the exam is included with your Club membership.
Built by a Grower, for Growers
My name is Jermaine Jefferson. I grow food in Zone 10a in Florida. Twelve years as a certified personal trainer, three books on growing and discipline, and a community of more than forty thousand growers on YouTube under GrowFitFL.
I built GFC-1 because I kept meeting growers doing the real work. Producing real food. Teaching real techniques. And they had no way to point to a credential that said so.
University extension programs serve their communities well. Government certifications serve commercial agriculture well. None of them were built for the Southern home grower who feeds his family from his land. That is exactly why a credential for our community had to come from us.
"I am going to teach you how to garden. You get the masterclass, the videos, and every tool inside the Club. The certification is the bonus that proves this is more than just a hobby."
A Badge of Honor for the Work You Have Done
Earning GFC-1 is the gardening version of finishing your first marathon and crossing the line to get your medal. The medal does not make you a professional runner. What it does is mark the moment you stopped being someone who wished they could and became someone who did.
From that moment you can talk to other runners as a peer, encourage the next person to start, and stand in the conversation having earned it. GFC-1 carries the same weight in the Southern growing community. When you earn it, you have shown you completed a serious body of training built specifically for growing food in the South.
Holding GFC-1 means:
The Path
GFC-1 is earned by completing the 16 GFC-1 modules (87 lessons) inside GrowFitFL Club. Sixteen modules covering every topic a serious Southern grower needs in zones 8 through 11. Climate and zone basics, soil and water, seed starting, the four seasonal planting calendars, pest and disease ID, food forest design, harvest and storage, perennials, containers, seed saving, and the Southern climate challenges that sink most growers.
Inside the Club you also get Ask the Grow Guide, trained on Southern conditions, the Plant Doctor diagnostic tool, plant and harvest trackers, a county frost calendar, and a weekly digest for the Southern grower.
Finish every lesson in all 16 modules and pass the quiz at the end of each one, and you have earned GFC-1. You choose whether your name shows in the public registry. You receive a digital certificate and a badge for your social media, email signature, website, or media kit. Nothing to ship. Nothing to mail in. No inspector to schedule. The whole path lives online, inside the Club, at your own pace. You earn it when the work is done.

Proof Anyone Can Verify
Every GFC-1 credential has a number anyone can verify. Holders who choose to be listed appear at members.growfitfl.com/certified with their name, credential number and date earned. A city or state shows only if the holder adds it. Other Southern growers can find their peers and see they are not alone.
The transparency is what makes the credential trustworthy. Some holders choose not to be listed, so if you cannot find someone in the search, ask for their credential number and check it. If it verifies, they did the work.
What Is Next
GFC-1 is the foundational credential. For growers who want to teach and build a gardening business, the next step is GFC-Pro: professional training with assessed work and written scoring rubrics.
The path is direct. Join GrowFitFL Club. Choose monthly or yearly billing on the pricing page. Both plans include the GFC-1 assessment.
Complete the work. Earn the credential. Wear it.

What GFC-1 Is, and What It Is Not
GFC-1 is GrowFitFL's recognition that a member has completed every lesson in the 16 GFC-1 modules (87 lessons) of GrowFitFL Club and passed the quiz on every module. It is a credential we award. We choose the standards. We maintain the registry. We grant the credential when the work is done. Nothing about GFC-1 comes from any government agency, university, accreditation body, or trade association.
This is the same model used by many established private programs across other industries, where a brand recognizes those who have completed its training and joined its community. The credential's meaning comes from the rigor of the training, the public registry, and the community of growers who hold it.
GFC-1 is a private educational certificate of completion issued by GrowFitFL, LLC, a Florida limited liability company, to GrowFitFL Club members who complete the 16 GFC-1 modules (87 lessons). The credential recognizes completion of the GrowFitFL training curriculum and participation in the GrowFitFL grower community. It does not represent or imply any other form of recognition.
GFC-1 is not a government license, occupational certification, accredited credential, regulated professional designation, or industry-recognized standard. GFC-1 is not issued by, affiliated with, sponsored by, endorsed by, approved by, or connected to any government agency, university, university extension service, Master Gardener program, accreditation body, trade association, or regulatory authority in any state or jurisdiction, including but not limited to the United States Department of Agriculture, any state department of agriculture, the University of Florida IFAS Extension, any Master Gardener Volunteer Program, the American Horticultural Society, or any state occupational licensing board.
Completion of GFC-1 does not qualify any holder to provide professional horticultural, agricultural, landscape design, food safety, pest control, real estate, consulting, or business advisory services in any jurisdiction that requires a license, registration, certification, or other form of authorization for such services. Holders may identify themselves as having completed the GrowFitFL training curriculum. Holders may not use the GFC-1 credential to imply professional qualification beyond completion of the training.
The information presented in the GFC-1 curriculum is educational and based on the experience of the instructor and on widely available horticultural resources. It is not a substitute for professional advice in matters of land use, food safety, agricultural commerce, pest control, or any other regulated activity. Results from applying the techniques taught will vary based on climate, soil, site conditions, member effort, and many factors outside of GrowFitFL's control. GrowFitFL does not guarantee any specific gardening, financial, or business outcome from completion of the training. Members are responsible for verifying the legality of any practice they apply on their own property in their own jurisdiction.
Membership in GrowFitFL Club is open to individuals 18 years of age or older. Refund and cancellation terms are governed by the GrowFitFL Club Terms of Service at members.growfitfl.com/terms.
GrowFitFL, LLC reserves the right to modify the GFC-1 curriculum, standards, public registry policies, and credential branding at any time. The credential and the registry are operated under the editorial and operational discretion of GrowFitFL, LLC.
By participating in the GFC-1 program, members acknowledge that the credential is a private recognition from GrowFitFL, LLC and not a government, academic, or professional license, and that they will not represent it as anything other than what is described in this notice.
