The Five Lessons

What's Inside the Course

01

Fruit Then, Fruit Now

Why a store tomato tastes like nothing, and how food quietly got bred for shipping and shelf life instead of flavor and nutrition. The change is real, and there is a paper trail.

02

The Dirt Is the Whole Story

A plant can only give you what the soil gives it. Here is why so much food lost its minerals, and exactly how to build rich, living soil at home for free from what you already throw away.

03

No Seeds, No Second Harvest

Seedless fruit, hybrids, and patents are quietly removing the one thing that let families feed themselves for thousands of years: seed you can save. When you cannot regrow it, you are a customer forever.

04

1,500 Miles to Your Plate

How far your food really travels, why that drives prices up, and why a long, centralized supply chain is behind the outbreaks and recalls you keep seeing in the news.

05

What You Do About It

The good news, and the whole point. How to take your plate back starting this week with whatever space you have, even a pot on a windowsill. You do not need land, money, or experience.

The story behind it

Why I'm telling you this, and why I built the Plan

I was a biochemistry major with a dream of finding answers in a lab. Life had other plans, so I went back to my first love, helping people get strong. I spent twelve years as a certified personal trainer. Real clients, real bodies, real lives. That work teaches you things no camera ever will.

The whole time, I kept studying. Herbs, plants, the remedies my clients' grandmothers swore by and the science underneath them. That study grew into a longevity garden I planted for one reason, to keep the people I love thriving as long as possible.

I learned to garden in the Midwest, where the seasons make you earn every harvest. Florida made me relearn all of it in sand and heat. Florida is also where I met Toni. She grew up Caribbean, where a yard has always been a pantry and a pharmacy grows by the back door. I brought my systems. She brought her roots. The garden got better than anything either of us grew alone, and so did we.

Then the recall notices kept coming. Cucumbers. Carrots. Cantaloupe. Applesauce pouches made for little hands. We have four children. Every one of those notices read like a letter addressed to our house. And the more I dug into what happened to our food, the more I found. I could not keep it to myself.

So we built The Southern Garden Plan, and we put this course at the front door of it, free. Between the two of us there is more than fifty years of hands-in-the-dirt knowledge, and the Plan is where we finally wrote it all down so it could outlive us and feed you. This course is the why. The Plan is the how.

Before you decide whether any of this matters

The word they made up so you would not ask

There is a word riding on the food in your kitchen tonight, and most people in this country have never once said it out loud. It is the reason I stopped treating a garden like a hobby. I wrote the whole thing down as an open letter, and every claim in it is linked to the government document it came from so you can check me.

Free to read. Nothing to sign up for. Send it to whoever needs it.

And it does not stop at the lessons

Three guides come with it. Also free.

Printable, written for the South, and yours to keep whether you ever pay me a dollar or not. Print them and stick them inside a cabinet door.

The Southern Planting Sheet

Twenty one crops, the months each one goes in the ground for North, Central, and South, and what I would actually tell you about each one at the fence. This is the sheet that ends the guessing at the seed rack.

Start this week

30 Days to Growing Something

One spot, one crop, thirty days, nothing left to figure out. Day by day from picking your spot to eating the first thing you grew. Written for somebody who has never planted anything.

Pairs with Lesson 3

The Seed Saving Starter

Lesson three showed you the trap. This is the worksheet that gets you out of it. How to spot open pollinated seed, which plant to save from and why, and a tracker to run it season after season.

People ask why I give this much away. Because a grower who plants something is worth more to this world than a reader who does not. Take the guides, plant something, and we can talk about the rest later.

The same things I would tell somebody standing in their backyard with me are what I put inside these $25 books.

Families pay my health and garden consulting company for that same teaching. The books hold it too.

If you tried before and lost it

It died in July, and that was not your fault.

You bought the seeds. You did exactly what the video said. By July the whole bed was done and you decided, quietly, that you are not a plant person.

Here is what actually happened. Almost every gardening video and article you have read was written for somebody up north. It is good advice where it was written. Down here it is the wrong calendar.

Plant in spring. Wait for the last frost. Look up your hardiness zone. None of that fits Florida. UF/IFAS does not even plan this state by zone. It splits Florida into North, Central and South at State Road 40 and State Road 70, because that is what really moves your planting dates.

A tomato going in the ground in May is not a character flaw. It is a northern calendar. Change the calendar and the same person grows food.

A year from now you are going to wish you had started today.

No countdown, no discount, no fake deadline. Just the plain fact that the season moves whether you do or not.

After the why comes the how

Decide how far you want to take it.

The course stays free no matter what. When you are ready to put real money behind your food, there are two doors.

Questions I'd ask too

Is it really free?
Yes. All five lessons, free. No card at any point. You sign up with your email so the course can save your progress, and that's it.
Do I need a big yard?
No. Lesson five starts with whatever you have, even a pot on a windowsill or a corner of a patio. Land helps, but it is not the price of entry.
How long does it take?
About 35 minutes for all five lessons. Take them in one sitting or one a day. They unlock all at once and wait for you.
What happens after I finish?
You keep your access. The course lives inside The Southern Garden Plan, so you'll see the member tools while you're in there. If you ever want the full plan, your first 7 days on it are free. If not, the course is still yours.
Where does this apply?
The growing guidance is written for the South, zones 8 to 11, with Florida as home base. The five lessons themselves, what happened to our food and why, apply anywhere in the country.
What is the Plan membership, in one breath?
The paid layer this course lives inside. The full Masterclass, every seasonal challenge, a printed copy of Grow Food NOT Lawns shipped to your door, a year of Movement training, Ask the Grow Guide, and the 764-plant Southern Grow Guide, for $199 a year. Your first 7 days are free. A card is required to start, and if you cancel before day 7 you pay nothing.
